How did you get started teaching?
I have taught in a variety of capacities. I have a MA degree and taught creative design classes for both Lonestar College and The Art Institute of Houston. My aquatics experience started when I worked for the YMCA in 2013. I taught during the summers and begain to teach year-round when I went to work for Lifetime Fitness as a Swim Instructor. At Lifetime Fitness, I began to work with and specialize in adults.
What types of students have you worked with?
Adults, Kids, special needs, individuals with past traumatic experiences, triathletes, US Master swimmers, individuals with mobility issues (knee, back, hip, neck).
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don’t just look at the price. If an adult, learn from someone that understands the needs of adults. If the instructor offers a free consultation, take it. You will learn a lot about yourself, your current level of skill, and the personality of your instructor. Look for a teacher, someone that can effectively demonstrate and help you when you don’t quite understand what to do. Have fun, talk with your instructor, and ask questions.
