About
Hey! My name is Trey Lindsley (TreyL) and I have been working and teaching and in music for the last 5 years. I've played guitar for 15 years, taken 4 years of vocal lessons and have toured with multiple groups including The Westmont College Choir, The Riverside, and my solo project TreyL. I am able to teach Guitar, Voice, and Songwriting & Composition Online, and Ukelele, Bass and Drums in person. Along with the experience I have, I, first and foremost, want to share the love of music and the use of it as an emotional expression. This is more important than getting every note right in my opinion. I think music does not need to be just a part of life but also a way of life.
I will help my stundent both set and achieve their attainable goals but while also looking towards a harder goal that seems hard to get. I am good at meeting a student where they are at and helping them continually surprise themselves with their progress.
I will only take students who will commit to practicing outside of the lesson time. The inner drive is the only way for real and lasting improvement.
If you like this vision and you want to improve your skills, then I would love to coach you in becoming a musician and a music lover!
I really enjoy music and the effect that it can have on someone's day. If I can cause a good moment in one day that can create a string of positive moments and a more fulfilled life for the student and myself. Music is not effected by hard times but often can help us get through them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start with an assesment. It is very important to start any journey with both seeing where you are at and where you want to get to. I believe both attainable goals and big dreams are very important in the process of learning. I have found that when a student can find both of those things they want to practice more and will never lose that desire to learn and improve.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have played Guitar for 15 years. I have been singing for around 20 years with choirs and bands. I have had 10+ years working with youth and 5+ years in music and education. I graduated with my music minor even though i was in the college's choir, chamber singers, and help form a popular folk band. I am now a full time musician and want to help people reach their goals.
How did you get started teaching?
I started in the music education field when I was brought on as the Director of Music Education at The Turner Foundation (A Non-Profit in Santa Barbara, CA). Whie there, I had 30 rotating students from the age of 5- 14 and catered to what they were most interested in. That ranged from orchestral instuments to rock band instruments. I saw that the reason a student sticks it out and fits music into their life is not because of being forced to practice but a desire and true exploration of music.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think in asking a teacher a question it is best to be organized in your thoughts and to try to remember the words that you have learned in your lessons to describe different things about your instrument or music in general. The most important thing though is not to let that stop you from practicing. You have to move past the issue to the next thing and maybe that could even help you figure it out on your own. Then in your lesson ask the teacher and they will know you practiced ;)
