About

For 40+ years Bobby Lawrence Karate has been teaching it's students how to concentrate better in school, how to be more respectful to parents and teachers, how to be more confident in any given situation, and how to be physically and mentally strong. All of those things has made Bobby Lawrence Karate Utah Valley's Preferred Karate Center.

Bobby Lawrence Karate, sometimes referred to simply as BLK, is a unique eclectic system of karate developed by Master Bobby Lawrence. Master Lawrence has been training in karate for over 40 years! He has trained extensively with some of the best martial artists in the whole world, including, Grand Master Richard Callahan and Senior Grand Master Ed Parker, the Father of American Karate. Master Lawrence began teaching karate in Utah in 1978. He received his “Masters” recognition in 1994, from Grand Master Callahan.

Master Bobby Lawrence, his wife Charlene and all three of their sons: Justus, Dallas, and Miki have earned advanced degrees of black belt and have won state, national and even world titles in Sport Karate. But their greatest skills are in the way they are able to teach karate to their students. They make learning fun while at the same time instilling in their students the most valuable aspects of karate training, namely, self discipline, respect, confidence, and the ability to set and achieve goals.

    Frequently asked questions

We have our new students go through our EZ Trial Program. The purpose of the program is twofold. One, it gives our new students a chance to see our facility, meet our professionaly trained staff, and see how and what we teach. Two, it gives us a chance to see how our new students learn and see what programs would best fit their needs and skill level.

All of our instructors have been martial artists for several years. They have also gone through our Black Belt Leadership Program to help them learn various teaching skills and how to become an instructor. They also have instructor trainings on a regular basis.

We have worked with all sorts of different students. Karate is able to teach a variety of life skills that can help everyone. We have taught students with confidence issues, ADHD, Autism, discipline issues, anger management issues, and so much more. Karate is for everyone!

When looking around at various martial arts locations, be sure to find out whether children and adults have seperate classes, whether they offer age appropriate curriculum, and whether they have ongoing in-service teacher training. We also recommend seeing if they offer some sort of trial program so you can get first-hand experience.
