Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Science in Music degree from Portland State University. I am also a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) through the Music Teacher's National Association. I participate regularly in contributing education and I constantly strive to improve my teaching skills with new ideas and concepts.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tuition is figured on an annual basis of 42 lessons per year and paid in monthly increments of $72.00. There is no credit given for missed lessons. Missed lessons may be made up at the availability and discretion of the teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students of all ages, but mainly have elementary through high school students. I have more room for adult/weekday daytime students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
After intense preparation for a music festival one student exclaimed that the songs in her method book seemed so much easier now. It is fun to see them realize their progress.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what your goals are and find a teacher who teaches in a way that will help you reach your goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Potential students should realize the amount of daily work it takes to become proficient at the piano. If they are committed to daily work, then I am a good fit teacher. If not, they may be better off with a group piano class or a teacher that is more laid back.
