How did you get started teaching?
I found Pilates in my search to heal from a concussion and cervical spine injury. The PTSD and neurological symptoms were debilitating. After finding a Pilates instructor to train with, I was blown away by the healing I had experienced after only 3 months of private training. I had to know how and why this was so effective. So I enrolled in an extensive 2 year teacher training and my healing moved me further into a passion. To help others move from pain to peace, incapacitated to empowered, self deprecating to self loving.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with veterans with PTSD, needing trauma processing; Pre & post natal clients; clients with paralysis or amputees, or missing muscles; back pain, spinal hernia toons or fusions; athletes; and those just looking for a summer body.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My best advice is to find someone who will intuitively train your body. Training is not a one size fits all, so enforcing regimens that can lead to structural compromise or adrenal fatigue/burn out will be counter productive and to your detriment.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Are you willing to show up?
Are you able to be vulnerable?
Are you able to be compassionate with yourself & honest in your work?
