About

https://youtu.be/nTw6ismu0ag

I've taught guitar for just over six years. I graduated from Utah State University with my Bachelors of Music, emphasis in Guitar Performance. I was employed by the music department at USU and taught undergraduates from all majors for university credit from January 2012 - May 2014. I currently teach in Logan, UT and play with three lovely ladies in our band Haypenny.

My greatest expertise is the beginner guitar student. Regardless of age or level of musical knowledge, such as note reading, music theory, being able to sing and play at the same time, improvising, confidence in learning the instrument, advice for live performance or even just how to hold the guitar correctly, my teaching background and education will help build a strong foundation for the beginning guitar student. I can teach and have access to repertoire from classical guitar, folk, country, jazz, bluegrass, flamenco, blues, rock and pop. If there is something I don't have, I promise to point you in the best direction for it, even if it isn't with me. When not playing music, I enjoy tennis, cooking, running and hiking.

Seeing progress in my students is what I like most about teaching. Everyone is a beginner at some point in their lives in all facets, be them musical or not. As I became accustomed to the world of guitar and music in general, I came to find that I loved it more and more. My first semester of teaching was a very big point in time because I could see and understand how far I had come in a short amount of time. I was teaching my students what was taught to me and could see positive results in their playing week after week.

Frequently asked questions

Find out what they know on and about the guitar and what they'd like to learn. After that we can set reasonable goals to work toward.

•Graduated from USU with a Bachelor's of Music - Emphasis in Guitar Performance.

•Taught for the University from 2012-2014 and have also been teaching privately since then.

•Play solo and band gigs locally and ocasionally out of the valley.

$40 for 1-hour

First 30 minute lesson is FREE.

I worked for USU as an adjunct instructor. I really got attched to the idea of people that knew even less than me when I started, were always so gusto about their weekly lessons and what they had practiced.

During college mostly girls aged 18-22. Outside of the university setting, it's been mostly preteens and teenagers, youngest being six and the oldest of the group 16. The oldest I have taught is 68.

Whether by word of mouth or following my band page, local folks have come out to more than a couple of my shows, be it a solo or with the band gig. In college, I always had repeat students that requested me as their teacher, as well.

Find someone who's nice that can answer your questions about music. Make sure they can teach you what you want and motivate you to practice hard. They should also be able to get you information and resources you need for study, and that what they charge works for your budget.
