Cellist, Jamilyn Morris is a passionate and creative teacher and performer. A native to Salt Lake City, she began her cello studies at the age of 13 with Richard Hoyt. She earned her Bachelors of Music degree in cello performance studying cello and chamber music with Anne Francis and the Fry Street Quartet at Utah State University. As a teaching assistant to the Merling Trio and Bruce Uchimura, she attended Western Michigan University, where she earned her Masters of Music degree in cello performance. In the spring of 2013, she

graduated with her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Cello Performance with an emphasis in Music Education from the University of Utah, where she has served as a member of the Graduate String Quartet. She completed her Doctoral work with cellists John Eckstein and Steve Emerson as well as chamber musicians Hasse Borup and Gerald Elias. Jamilyn has performed with the Cache Civic Ballet, Utah Festival Opera, Salt Lake Chamber Artists, and frequently performs in the Salt Lake Choral Artists Chamber Orchestra. She has performed internationally in Germany and England. She truly has a passion for teaching, and has been passing on her love for the cello as a teacher since 2006. She completed her Suzuki teacher training with internationally known teacher trainers, Carey Cheney and David Evenchick. She has had the privilege of teaching music at the Utah State University String Academy, Mountain West String Academy, Western Michigan University, The Waterford School, the University of Utah Preparatory Division, Salt Lake Community College, and Sistema Utah. She loves teaching students of all ages and abilities, and has filled her studio with cellists aged 3 to adult.
