Kim Whitefield Piano Studio
About
My passion is integrating the arts into everyday learning. I have implemented this as a teacher's aide in the public school system and as an elementary education student in college, where I recieved a full scholarship with the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Foundation for the Arts.
I have taught piano since high school. As a teen, I studied piano performance intensely and toured Europe and Asia with other select students, to perform recitals for the public. I have recieved many outstanding marks in piano festivals and worked with countless other musicians in accompanying their musical pieces and rehearsing for theatrical plays.
I enjoy teaching individuals on a one-on-one basis what they want to learn with the piano. I will scaffold their learning with the steps needed to get there. For example, if someone wants to learn by ear I will put more focus on ear training but still cover reading and writing music. By default, I value piano technique in order for the student to play with control and a steady beat. This will allow the musician to play well with other musicians, accompany singers, and play more efficiently with less work.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
To begin study with a prospective student, I will assess their current knowledge and skills, ask them about their interests and musical goals, and provide a plan on how I can help them attain those goals. I will then provide a list of any materials or software they might need. Lastly, we will set up a schedule for lessons, usually on a weekly basis.
