Mr. Franssell teaches private lessons on violin and viola, and coaches chamber music in his home studio in the Lorton/Woodbridge area of Northern Virginia.
Mr. Franssell nurtures each student to rise to his or her greatest potential. He teaches viola and violin with his own method of teaching, which is a traditional teaching method. Mr. Franssell tailors lesson assignments to develop the individual skills of each student. In addition to solo repertoire, all students study scales, left hand technical studies, bowing technique, etudes, and music theory.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Daniel Franssell has been active in music in the Washington metro area for more than 30 years. He received his degree in Music Education from the University of Minnesota. For two years he taught private lessons and directed the elementary string program, as well as the junior and senior high school orchestra programs. At the time, his major instrument was violin. He then auditioned on violin and was accepted in the United States Army Band (Pershing's Own), mostly playing the viola. For 23 years Mr. Franssell was the Music Director of his church, where he directed the choir, as well as the 3-octave handbell choir. Besides the weekly rehearsal and Sunday anthems, the choir sang larger works, such as Handel's Messiah and Schubert's Mass Number 2 with orchestral accompaniment. He continues to serve as a violinist for his church in Sunday morning worship services.
