About
My teaching approach: I put an emphasis on making guitar playing accessible to the masses. Lesson plans are individualized. I can help the student understand how music works so they can make music work for them, either casually or professionally. I have developed a teaching technique that has enabled hundreds of my students reach their personal musical goals in a minimum amount of time with a maximum amount of fun. My influences are: Wes Montgomery, Dave Navarro, John Frusciante, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Robben Ford, Joe Perry, SRV, Brad Paisley, Brent Mason, Bradley Nowell, Ben Harper, Rich Robinson, Mark Ford, Blind Melon, David Gilmour, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Cake, The Cars, Derek Trucks, Kenny Burell, Django Reinhardt, Edgar Winter, Huey Lewis & the News, Incubus, James Brown, Jamiroquai, Lenny Kravitz, Luther Allison, The Meters, Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Parliament/P-Funk, The Beatles, The Police, Prince, Rage Against the Machine, Rival Sons, Rush, Santana, Steely Dan. Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: South/West Madison, North/East Madison Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: Mon-Thurs 4:30-8:30 at Madison Music Foundry. Guitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing. Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: Ask questions about what kind of guitar player they would like to become. What styles of music do they enjoy? Who are their influences? What is their previous musical experience? Have them create a playlist of about a dozen songs of varying difficulty levels that intrigue them and they would like to be able to play. Songs are to be added to the list as their abilities evolve. Have them really think about what they truly want from music. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: First thing: Tune the instrument. Next, ask the student if they have any immediate questions/concerns specifically about their current project. Have them demonstrate their progress since the last meeting. Address concerns and assess the progress. Map out goals to strive to achieve for the next meeting. Discuss possible projects for the horizon. Have the student leave the lesson with the feeling they have learned something of value. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: Anyone with the desire to have a personal relationship with music. They must be willing to learn techniques and concepts that may be initially challenging to them. Has a clear idea about what they want from the lesson each time.
