About
"I believe anyone who wants to can learn to play guitar if they put in the practice time and attention. I feel proud of all of my students. I love to see seen them get excited about making music, and I do my best to help them work with passion and dedication."
I have taught guitar and done vocal and performance coaching for over 30 years privately, and at a number of colleges and schools. I have worked with students from ages 5 to 85, from beginners to college music majors and working professionals.
I do my best to tailor lessons to fit each individual's goals and interests while at the same time provide a strong foundation in musical technique and expression.
Some of my students have gone on to record CDs, appear on radio, go on tour, and successfully complete music degrees at schools such as Berklee College of Music, Purchase College, Crane School of Music, New Paltz, Dutchess Community College (all State University of New York), Hunter College (City University of New York), and Bard College. Some are now music instructors as well. Students are also performing in area open mics, churches, school programs, festivals, and coffee houses. Others prefer to play music for their own private enjoyment.
I can teach any guitar style at a beginning to intermediate level. At more advanced levels my specialties are classical guitar, popular and folk acoustic guitar styles, fingerstyle and songwriting.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I chat with the student to get an idea of their musical aspirations, experience, and interest.
At the first meeting I listen and observe to see where the student is, make an assessment of where to go and design a lesson and assignments accordingly. Or if it is a beginner I provide my Intro book and begin showing the student how to get started. By the end of the first lesson even a total beginner is playing music!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Master of Music in Classical Guitar performance
I continue to study guitar with a very high level teacher and engage in vocal studies as well so I can stay on top of the current knowledge in playing and singing.
I have studied and done some commercial music writing. I have been been an active singer/songwriter/performer/recording artist since the 1990's. I am the 2014 winner of the International Finegrstyle Guitar Championship, first female to earn that title.
