I meet every student where they are in their musical journey. I teach musicians to feel their music and really become the music. Every musician will not be into classical music so I like to understand what type of music inspires each student so that I can know how to teach them in a way that they would understand it. Music is my life! There's nothing else in this world that I would rather be doing than music. Even during my darkest moments in life music was always there to lift me up. It is very rewarding to see someone enjoy the music that I play. It just makes me want to grind harder and never stop....

I pride myself on my ability to work with my students to meet their specific needs what ever they may be . Whether you are looking to develop you voice to sing as a hobby or to perform professionally, I can help you .Good vocal technique is necessary to sing classical, standard, musical theatre, pop, rock, or country even rap. I can teach good technique to help you sound your best whenever, and whatever you like to sing. I do that to meet YOU where you are as a singer and as a musician. My area of expertise is working with students who have had little to no private vocal study. , whether, young, or old. You’ll note that I have purposely not...

Music promotes self-discipline, creativity and self-esteem, and anyone who doubts this statement . . . find out for yourself. Your voice will soar! Your fingers will fly! This is the experience of one of Dr. Smith's classes ... of course study, practice, discipline and persistence are key elements to getting there! Do you have it? If so . . . working together, there is nothing that cannot be achieved.

Dianna cares about all of her students even beyond thier voice. She has a gentle approach to teaching and is always patient when I needed the reminder to do something. Dianna listened to suggestions I had even if she didn't think they were the right option. I love taking lessons from Dianna and would recommend her to anybody.

Neil is wonderful! He was so good at inspiring my son and getting him excited about lessons when he wasn’t in the mood . Neil is so good with kids, he meets them at their level and makes lessons fun and “cool”. And he is such an amazing guitarist! I wouldn’t look further if you need guitar lessons.

Marcello gave me the tools necessary to be able to play essentially whatever I want and play well. With concepts like deciding the length of a pause, how to gradually change the tempo, and deciding how to contrast dynamics, I gained the tools necessary to make these decisions on future pieces and learn how to make a piece my own. One of the most fun collections to play is Marcello's 5 seasons - one piece for each of the 4 seasons plus a finale. I even won first place in a competition with his finale piece, and I remember how happy he was that his own composition was competitive against a myriad of challenging classical pieces that only skyrocket in difficulty as the competition becomes tougher. I did a small amount of composing myself, and he helped with edits and performance advice. During my final year in high school, I switched our lessons to focus on the trumpet, which I have done in band for a while but felt that I wanted more of a challenge. Marcello recognized that my attacks are soft, so we worked on opera style music to help me work on my weakness. I have not worked on solo pieces for trumpet, and Marcello introduced me to challenging and fun pieces: Sounds of the Hudson, Bride of the Waves, and the famous "Carnival of Venice". The Carnival of Venice is a wonderful piece, so I performed it at Marcello's concert. I even found accompaniment from an orchestra that I liked, so I wrote out chords for the piano and gave him the challenge of a custom piano support. Before I left college, he introduced me to music chord theory. It was a great treat that I continued learning about in jazz electives at Michigan State. We also have hobbies in common. We played chess against each other and at first he was stronger but then I improved and managed to win and make games more competitive. During the years after lessons, we played tennis together and also had competitive games and another way to stay connected. Perhaps the strongest outcome of our relationship was that I inspired my younger cousin Frankie to take lessons. Marcello said Frankie is the strongest piano player he has taught, with his ability to learn quickly and perform pieces that none of his other students have done, such as the 3rd movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata if I remember correctly. He is likely one of the strongest competitors in competition as well. I hope I gave insight into Marcello's versatility and advanced level of teaching.

Star Factory provides a comfortable environment for singers and songwriters. Brandon is a phenomenal vocal trainer that knows how to push singers to the next level. You'll go in a singer and come out a sanger. My vocal technique and range has improved significantly since I began taking classes there. If you're an aspiring singer I'd recommend you go to the Star Factory. You won't be disappointed.
