Tim C. says, "Steve was very knowledgeable about music and teaching, and he was able to break down topics and ideas into easily digestible lessons and teaching moments. He noticed issues with my playing and helped me correct them both by showing me the correct way to do something and giving me exercises/a curriculum to work on. A shame that I am not able to continue doing lessons with him because of a change in our schedule, but I highly recommend him to future prospective students if he becomes available as a teacher again." Brett E. says, "I have been working with Dr. Steve Fiess of High Range Piano for the last 10 months as an adult piano student, and I have been extremely satisfied with his instruction. I have been making great progress, and I’ve been improving faster than I have in the past with other teachers. Overall, Steve is a quiet, calm, all-around kind person. He is always encouraging, even when offering constructive criticism of my playing. I always look forward to my next lesson. After each lesson, I leave feeling good about my playing, and also like I received good feedback, so I know where I need to improve. Steve has been great at helping me select songs to play. As we move on to new pieces, the next one is always just the right difficulty--challenging enough to help me progress but always within reach with a little bit of work. He’s also always open to me bringing in pieces that I want to work on. I usually bring a few in, and he helps me decide which piece will be the best fit for my current skills. Steve’s depth and breadth of piano knowledge is also impressive. I often ask him questions about why a particular piece is written a particular way or some other detail about a piece. He always has a thorough answer that covers the relevant areas of music history, theory, and practice. I’ve never met another piano teacher who is so knowledgeable about the piano and piano music. It really helps to give some context to the music I’m playing and helps me understand it better. Overall, I’ve been very pleased, and I would not hesitate to recommend High Range Piano to anyone looking for a piano teacher. " Read more

Did you take lessons when you were a child? Maybe your teacher was a strict, unbending tutor and you had to spend hours practicing making it an unbearable chore. This should not be anyone's experience! Music lessons should be fun and engaging, and should include music that the student loves, challenging them based on their interests! We believe that every musician should experience progress and feel “successful” from the very beginning.

Geoff has been fantastic - my son wanted to learn to play the guitar after a quick introduction at school, and we met with a few teachers for him. Geoff was the best - he has been a great balance of teaching the basics, and helping my son focus on foundational techniques, while also giving him chances to choose the music he wants to play from a whole variety of genres. Geoff is clearly talented, and even teaching online, he is careful to review how my son is handling his guitar and watching his hands. He is patient with mistakes, and also knows when my son hasn't really practiced (and lets him know he knows!) :) It's been a pleasure working with him, and watching my son's skills develop. Geoff has even encouraged him to sing, which has been really fun to watch. Highly recommend!
