Tim J. says, "Lorin Studios is everything you want. My instructor Buzz is patient, accommodating to my schedule and always makes sure I have a solid foundation before moving onto the next lesson. He built a strong foundation that has allowed me to really excel quickly. The best thing is that he is always willing to go the extra mile to help me. Even outside of the lesson he has helped me with things I was struggling to grasp over the phone so I was ready to move forward for our next lesson. Whether you are a beginner or have been playing for years I cannot recommend Lorin Studios enough they are the best! " Read more

I have a degree in piano performance from Temple University and have had many successful students in my time teaching. I've conducted chiors, directed musical productions, accompanied solo and groups, taught elementary school music classes for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. I'm currently employed as a piano instructor at the George School, an international boarding school in Newtown Pa. I specialize in the Taubman approach to piano technique to playing so I can help and prevent pain while playing. I also hold annual student recitals at Jacobs Music where I'm an affiliated teacher. How long are classical piano lessons?

Classical piano lessons are 30 to 60 minutes long on average. The amount of time varies according to the teacher's style and the abilities of the student.

How do I find the best classical piano lessons near me?

Find classical piano lessons from private instructors by looking through the listings here on the Lessons website. Local music schools sometimes offer virtual lessons online as well.

Prior to hiring a local piano instructor, you should always:

  • Secure a minimum of 3 lesson cost estimates to get a clear comparison.
  • Read their ratings on sites such as Lessons and Google.
  • Talk to students on their references list.
  • Collect a written agreement and a lesson timeline before lessons begin.
  • Wait until after your preliminary sessions to start pre-booking for a month of lessons.

What question do I ask when choosing classical piano lessons?

When you're searching for a piano teacher, be sure to ask these questions:

  • How many years have you been teaching piano?
  • What is your formal music education background?
  • Which classical music composers are your favorites?
  • What is the typical age range of your students?
  • Do you offer a trial lesson, either for free or at a discounted rate?
  • If I don't have a piano, what type of keyboard should I get for practicing?
  • How much practice should I be doing outside of our lessons?
  • What textbooks do I need, and what's their cost?
  • Do you give assignments or pieces to memorize after each lesson?
  • Can you adapt your teaching style based on the individual student's needs?
  • What should I bring with me to our lessons?
  • How many different piano genres and styles can you teach?
  • Can I get a written copy of our agreement and the payment terms?
  • What is your policy for cancelling a lesson?
  • Will I be able to choose some of my own favorite songs to learn?

Pha Roah – Guitar Instructor Pha Roah, undoubtedly is the best guitar instructor that I’ve come across. I started learning to play the guitar in my mid 60’s and I’ve had two other instructors prior to my meeting with Pha Roah. I came across home while searching on-line at www.tsma.fun for a new instructor. My first contact with him was by phone, and after a brief conversation, I immediately felt that he was the right instructor for me. Although I felt this way, I still wanted to meet with him in person to satisfy my curiosity about his knowledge and experience of guitars, playing/teaching of guitars, and music in general. Our first meeting in person lasted for well over an hour, unlike my first meeting with my other two previous instructors which lasted just 15 – 20 minutes. After that meeting it became apparent that he was going to be my new instructor. I was very confident about his ability and trusted him - no regrets!!! Pha Roah’s theoretical, practical and technical knowledge, together with his experience in music, more so in the art of play the guitar and his patience in teaching makes him a great instructor. He is passionate about guitars and very enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of playing the guitar. Pha Roah has the right approach and is very methodical in the way he teaches. He does not limit his students to one type of music, but expose his students to a variety of guitar music like jazz, funk, rock, classic, blues, reggae etc. This is great because it gives students like me the confidence to be able to fit into a variety of music groups. As an instructor, Pha Roah communicates in a clear and concise manner, sets attainable goals, keeps track of skill development and progress, and provides weekly feedbacks. He guides his student along the path of playing, listening/hearing and proper timing. These qualities put together makes him an outstanding instructor. Nick
