About

I'm Darla Williamson, Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT), artist, teacher and creator! I love to help people (re)discover their creativity through Zentangle®, Mixed Media and Paper Arts classes! I also make and sell one of a kind items.

When you are a child you are filled with the sense of wonder, curiosity, and a willingness to explore new things just because they are there! A wonderfully open creative spirit. As we grow up we become self-conscious, compare ourselves to others, or we become so busy with the day-to-day commitments - work, family, laundry, etc. - that without our realizing it, our creative spirit can go into hibernation. I love to help people (re)discover their creative spark through Zentangle, mixed media and paper arts classes. Students frequently tell me stories about how Zentangle® has helped them realize they are creative and they try lots of new things they never imagined they could do, and people who already work in another art form tell how it helps them take a fresh approach to their art!

About Darla

Darla comes from a creative family, her mother is a self-taught fine artist, and her father can build anything. She had always been creative, but struggled to find her medium. For almost 20 years she used her creative process to solve problems in the corporate world. In 2010, after attending a Zentangle class in Atlanta, her mother-in-law sent a Zentangle kit to her, and it really opened Pandora's Box of Creativity. She became a Certified Zentangle Teacher in October 2011 and quit her corporate job in early 2012 to follow her teacher's heart and teach Zentangle. In March 2012, she opened Tangled Stones Studio in the historic Bluff Park neighborhood in Hoover, Alabama (Birmingham). Her dream was to help others find their creative spirit through Zentangle®, Book making, Art Journaling and other classes, and to sell the products from her own creative path - pottery, handmade books, encaustic paintings and more! and more! She also accepts custom orders for everything from creating pottery to wedding and bridal invitations.

Darla teaches classes in her studio every week to children and adults. Since 2012, she has taught almost 3,000 students! Some days her standard poodle Sophia helps out. When she's not teaching, she often works on pottery and books and is constantly trying new techniques and products.

    Frequently asked questions

In my studio, I teach small (8 people or less) classes so that I can spend time with each student and assist them individually if needed.  The classes are very relaxed and the object is to enjoy the process.  Since I have taught so many students over the years, if someone doesn't understand a technique or concept, I usually have a different way to explain so they can understand.
