About
Playing and teaching the French Horn is my career. I have been a professional horn player since 2001, and have been teaching all levels of students since 2002. I have performed regularly with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 2006, and with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra since 2001. In 2021 I became a full-time member of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. I also serve on the faculty of the University of Montevallo as horn teacher, lecturer, and horn pedagogist.
Other professional experience includes performing with the orchestras of Columbus GA, Lake Placid NY, Mobile, Atlanta Opera, Huntsville, Tallahassee, Memphis, Charleston, and Chattanooga.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, which has proven immensely helpful with teaching strategies and effectiveness.
Recordings include works with the Atlanta Symphony, Alabama Symphony, and Lake Placid Sinfonietta. Major tours include Carnegie Hall in 2012 and 2014 with the Atlanta Symphony, Carnegie Hall in 2012 with the Alabama Symphony, and Disney Concert Hall in 2006 with the Atlanta Symphony.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Lessons typically would be on a weekly basis, with beginners (6th grade or younger) having a 30 minute lesson, intermediate students (7th-8th grade) having a 45 minute lesson, and more advanced (high school and above) would require 1 hour lessons. These are really the minimum recommended lesson times per week, but if more time is requested, I am happy to accommodate that request.
Adult students are also welcome, and would typically have a 1 hour lesson per week.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 20 years of professional orchestral playing experience, and 20 years of teaching experience of all age ranges and all ability levels. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology which has helped tremendously in constructing effective teaching methods. I have been trained by many of the best horn players and teachers in the world. This training includes traditional methods, as well as the newest modern methods of horn playing, and I have incorporated a mix of the best of both worlds into my own playing and teaching.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
30 minutes - $25
45 minutes - $40
1 hour - $50
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching when friends in college asked me things like..."How do you do this" or "can you help me with that?". It quickly blossomed into an active private teaching studio.
Teaching became very natural for me very quickly due to the amount of thought that I put into my own playing, as well as my background in psychology.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would recommend finding a teacher based on their amount of professional experience playing and teaching, as well as their rapport with the student.
