Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to find out what their goal is and see what our starting point should be. Once we get that, we move at a pace that is geared toward the individual.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Studied music theory and am a self taught guitarist with 20 years of playing. I may not know it all, but I can give you what you need to progress.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I try not to charge a ridiculous amount. Lessons usually run for an hour or so and typical rates (depending on your needs) run around the $30 to $40 mark.
How did you get started teaching?
I got out of the "band" scene and started a family. I didn't want to just give up on music, and this is a way for me to keep that in my life.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types, from 8 year old children to 60 year old players. Beginners to intermediate players looking for extra knowledge.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Pick someone that speaks to you and knows what you need to succeed. Don't pick someone just based on how well they can play a solo, but on how they can explain that to you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want to achieve by taking lessons? How much time are you willing to dedicate to learning?
