The Akilah Kidd Studio
About
Born into a family with a passion for education, I naturally developed that same passion at an early age. My primary focus in teaching is to help students develop an insatiable love for music. All other educational objectives come easily once the passion is there! Although I've been teaching private flute lessons informally for about 15 years, I formed my private studio in 2010. After graduating with my Bachelor of Music degree (University of Alabama) and my Master of Music degree (University of Michigan), I began teaching in higher education. I've served on the music faculties of The University of Montevallo, Alabama State University, and Huntingdon College. If you would like to know more, I'd love to have you as a guest at www.akilahkidd.com!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I find it to be important to find out a student's goals and interests as they pertain to music, in addition to assessing where they are in their musical journey. From there, we can work together to devise an effective plan to help them achieve these goals, all while having fun!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor of Music - University of Alabama
Master of Music - University of Michigan
Previously taught music in non-profit, private, and higher ed. settings.
How did you get started teaching?
After participating with an outreach performance, a middle school student in attendance asked her band director to contact me about private lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of various age groups and socio-economic backgrounds.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Supporting a student who had numerous performances and auditions coming up. As I watched the student prepare, I could feel the excitement the student had each time a goal was met due to hard work on her part.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What, if any, specific outcomes would I like to achieve through private lessons.
