Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to find out what their interests are and what mediums they would like to try and experiment with. I also like to know if they are wanting to create things that are decorative or works of art that are meaningful.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a fine arts bachelors degree in art education with an emphasis in black-and-white film photography and ceramics. I have been teaching for 13 years in the public school system. I have taught six years in elementary art and six years in junior high art. I am now starting a new journey by teaching art in high school. I have taught private lessons for 12 years. I have also taught virtual lessons as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing depends on which medium we will be working in as well as how many hours we would be working together.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always loved teaching art and being in the Art community. It was always a dream of mine growing up to become an artist and to share the love that I have for the arts. So I became an art teacher in 2008.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students all ages as well as students with disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I truly love teaching art and I have a summer program called Art Quest. We were not able to meet in person this summer so we went virtual and it was highly successful. Students had a great time and so I.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone that has a flexible teaching method as well as the skills you would like to learn.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I would tell my students not to be afraid to ask a question about their needs. I would encourage them not to be shy.
