Mr. B's Tutoring

About

While being tutored by Mr. B, you will learn some great ways to "PUNish" your friends with puns. Come on, folks! Learn and have some fun (or "pun") with it!

Actually, I've been teaching for over 32 years. I have taught virtually every grade level, and currently teach at a local high school. There I teach AP Psychology, Psychology and World History. I have taught most social studies subjects, many in science, and have even taught 4th graders how to read, write and bribe the teacher (well, all but that last one). I am a certified teacher, and look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks!!

Frequently asked questions

Get to know them; figure out what they need to learn if it is specific, general, aimed toward an assessment, building a project, etc.; offer a pretest to assess understanding in math, followed by a posttest when "completed." With everyone, check for understanding at various points of the teaching process. Check with parents and even other educators to see how the student is progressing.

I am a certified teacher in the State of Arizona. I am certified Secondary Social Studies, but have taught other subjects, such as science, English and Writing for lower grades, spelling/vocabulary, etc. Further, I am a certified principal as well. I can help students and parents see the "big picture."

I'm a $20/hour guy, except if a student's family is in dire straits. So, the price is negotiable. For more rigorous ventures, I may go as high as $25/hour.

I worked in fast food as a trainer, and also taught in the Sunday School of my church. Some friends and other parents suggested I might want to pursue teaching, so I did...34 years ago. I've been at it ever since.

I've worked with special needs, mensa candidates, ELL students, various styles of learning (audio/visual, kinesthetic, product-oriented), and often employ all of the above in lessons. I take great pride in getting struggling students to not just succeed, but to excel in school subjects.

I had one particular students that earned a "F" his first quarter. I restructured some things for him, but most importantly started teaching him the skills that would help him be successful. I also managed to get him to admit he could succeed. He finished with a high "C" on the final exam. He still stays in contact with me (as an adult, working in the "real" world).

Find out how you learn best and find someone that can provide that assistance. Further, find someone that can help you discover other ways to learn. Since social studies touches on the other subjects at one time or another, what a great place to start!

What do I need to know?

How can I learn it (what skills do I need and use)?

Why is this important? (legitimate question, and teachers need to answer it)

How will I know I have mastered or reached understanding?
