Why do I teach art?
The look I see on a student's face when they create something original to them. It is a beautiful, shining, effervescent, glowing pride. It is different than the pride of academic achievement or the success of winning an athletic event. Creation comes from the soul. Making art is a passion that anyone can learn and enjoy their entire life.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
EDUCATION THROUGH DIRECT EXPERIENCE= RESULTS!
INTERESTS
What do you want to accomplish?
In a Private Lesson, we will focus on challenging an artist's existing skills and taking them to a more advanced level, while introducing them to new techniques, materials and styles in fine art. Curriculum's are customized to build students skills and knowledge of art with their interests in mind.
I customize a curriculum or area of focus where our art students will build confidence, see results and have a fun experience too!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA in drawing and painting. I taught K-12 art for 25 years specializing in Art and 3-d Design from beginning art classes to Advanced and College Prep art portfolios. I am a working artists with collectors across the US. I have taught acrylic, watercolor, printmaking without a press, ceramics, paper mache, mixed media. I no longer teach oil painting because oil paint and mediums used are very toxic specifically for children. That said, a painter can get the look of oil with acrylic and proper use of mediums.

How did you get started teaching?
Art class has always been my world. As a child the more art classes, art camps and art workshops I participated in the happier I became! In high school I decided to get a college degree in Art. I received a drawing and painting degree and volunteered at a Boys and Girls Club as an art teacher. I fell in love with the art of teaching. There is no better feeling than seeing a student grow and change for the positive. Creating art is the best place to be for your mind and your spirit.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of students from absolute beginners who have never made art to intermediate students who need a push to get to a better place in their art making. This includes students with diabilities, veterans, children and the elderly. I can always modify a lesson for each individual artist's needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently guest instructed an art lesson for a Veteran's group at the Phx. Veteran's Hospital. The student were open and excited about their art lesson. We worked on making mandalas which are healing and seem difficult to make. The design process is inspirational and therapeutic. The students enjoyes it immensely. It was a great day.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Adaptable- The teacher should create a lesson for your learning style and abilities.
Creative-The teacher should think outside the norm to help the student reach success.
Patient and kind- Enough said!
Passionate-Does the teacher love teaching. Does the teacher care about me and my goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
This is dependent on each individual student . But a frw questions that come to mind are : What are my goals? What core concept am I learning? How will this practice beneft my art making skills?
