About this pro

I have a very wide range of experience, many mediums and artistic styles. I most enjoy letting each student work at their own pace on whatever it is they want to learn and work on. With the ability to keep with one medium to master it, or switch between any medium as they wish.  I do not make students follow a strict schedule. I do tech technically sound and age old processes, as well as tips and tricks from over 30 years in business and 45 as an artist.

Another important ability I offer is my successful experience working with students age from 3-104, some with common to very uncommon differences or disabilities (i.e. Autism Spectrum, ALS, Completely Blind, Macular Degeneration, ADD, ADHD and more)

For 26+ years I have owned and operated my Murals by Nora, creating murals, custom faux finishes, commissioned canvas artwork, portraits and more for a wide range of people and businesses.  My largest mural is over 2,000 square feet, on a Historic Buliding exterior in Oklahoma. My smallest artwork is 2"*3", and every size in between.

Meeting and working with so many different types of people. Seeing and understanding how differently everyone learns. Not to mention the artwork itself, in all mediums.  Helping the student realize they can create art no matter what.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

A meet and greet at my studio. A look around at my artwork so the student can see some of my style.  I talk with the student to find out what they are interested in as far as art goes. I ask about any previous experience, what supplies they might have on hand, and ask what type of artwork they are interested in starting with.  I show and explain what all I have in my studio, the different medium supplies, drafting tables, easels, products etc. We discuss class days and times they are interested in.  Im available from 10am until midnight 7 days a week.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Ive been artistic my entire life, 50+ years. I come from extremely talented Mother and Grandmother. Ive owned my own Murals by Nora business for 28+ years, working with private and commercial clients to create murals, custom faux finishes, commissioned canvas art of all styles, themes, mediums. Thru the years Ive also continued to teach students of all ages.

How did you get started teaching?

Parents or adults of my mural clients asked if I would teach. I've taught art lessons  to a wide variety of students, all ages, all mediums. I've worked with students who have different physical or educational abilities.  Ive done  art therapy at several Assisted living centers in Chandler, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale. And also art classes at various Chandler and Tempe public schools.

What types of students have you worked with?

My student base is varied. Ages of my students range from 3 years old to my oldest at 104 years old.  Ive successfully worked with students with various differences and abilities including ; ADD,ADHD, Autism Spectrum, ALS,  Macular Degeneration, Alzheimers, Dimentia, Totally Blind (yes, it was incredible), defiance disorders, many different ethnic backgrounds and more.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

My newest student is a 6 1/2 yr old girl who is incredibly gifted. My  One Woman art show  that was stressful and very successful. Working with people who are convinced they can not "even draw a straight line" but they are thrilled when they create a great piece of art.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Pick a teacher you like talking to, you like the different styles of artwork they produce, you feel comfortable in their studio.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Ask if they have created artwork similar to what you are interested in. Find out if they will let you change or move on when you want to. Make sure they are not going to "just touch up a little" on Your artwork when you are not at the studio. Some teachers "fix" after hours.  Ask what mediums they can teach, what their experience is. Ask to see their artwork.
