About

I fell in love with creating with clay while earning my BA in Visual Arts in 2005. Over the years, I have discovered that humanity seems to have an intrinsic desire to work with clay, and I love providing our creative community with the opportunity to learn hand building or the pottery wheel.

I love when people arrive stressed out to class and by the middle they are laughing and having a wonderful time. Working with clay, especially on the pottery wheel is such a relaxing and fun experience, and I like providing our creative community with opportunities to try their hand at it, or to delve deeper into the art of ceramics if they are interested.

Frequently asked questions

I offer a variety of ceramics classes that specialize in beginners, but if someone is coming in for private lessons, I always invite them to stop by the studio and meet me first so that they can decide if we are a good fit.

BA Visual Arts, Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, FL 2005

MA Art Education, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 2011

I have worked in art education since 2006 in both traditional classroom environments as well as community art centers. I started my own art studio in 2020, specializing in the ceramic arts.

As a practicing artist, I have had shows since 2005 in the Tampa Bay Area, Philadelphia's Main Line, and now I am an active participant in the Phoenix Art Scene. I am a member of Local First AZ, Arizona Clay Association, and Art Link. I have work in retail galleries such as the Phoenix Art Museum, West Valley Arts Council's HQ Gallery, and the Merchantile of Scottsdale.

Private lessons for beginners start at $30 an hour, and include your materials (clay, firing fees, glazing).

I wanted to be an artist and a teacher since I was a little girl, so being an art teacher is my dream job. I love what I do and I wouldn't want to do anything else.

I have taught pre-school through college students in traditional classroom settings, and I teach both adults and children at Sunshine Sunflower Studio.

We recently celebrated a surprise 60th birthday at the studio. It was really fun being part of the secret and planning the perfect project for the family.

Ceramics - especially the pottery wheel - can be tricky to mastser at first. Select a teacher who is warm, positive and encouraging. Don't allow yourself to get frustrated easily - it will be worth it!

I think the most important thing is for students to have realistic expectations of themselves in the beginning. Be honest with your instructor about what you would like to learn how to do, and be patient with yourself as you practice.
