Name name is Andie Olson. I am a professional artist with a BFA in Fine Arts - Painting and Drawing. I have taught art in a wide variety of settings for over 10 years. This includes small classes, one-on-one lessons, and I also taught 3 - 12 grade art in the tradtional school setting for 3 years. I have experience teaching all ages and skill-sets. Everyone can improve their skills and produce art to be proud of!
I enjoy helping people find their artistic voice and expand upon the skills they already have. To ease the intimidation factor that art can evoke, I like to make student's comfortable and calm before we start the lesson. Once your inhibitions have melted away - building skills we come quickly and your creativity will flow through you!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I work closely with the student to assess their current skill set and what they are looking to achieve during their lessons. Every student is different, so I work to tailor my lessons to their individual needs and interests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 10 years of experience teaching art to students of all ages and skill sets. I have taught one-on-one lessons, small and large group lessons, as well as grades 3 - 12 in a traditional school setting.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My lessons are $50 an hour per student. There is an additional fee of $5 if the my travel will be over 10 miles from my home.
I offer a 10% discount when students purchase 4 or more lessons at a time. And also if they refer another student to me that purchases a lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching right out of college at Michael's Arts & Crafts and I have moved my way up from there.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages and skill sets.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have recently been working with a student to create her portfolio for a private art school in Singapore and we just found out that she is on the short list for acceptance!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the teacher (hopefully me!) has experience teaching the subject that you are interested in. Just because a teacher is experienced doesn't mean they have knowledge in a medium like glass blowing if they've never done it before themselves!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be honest about your skill level so that lessons will be appropriate. Also, let me know exactly what you you want to learn! I want you to enjoy your lessons as much as you learn from them!
