What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will look at you past and recent work. Then you will do a self portrait and I will evaluate it. Give you pointer's on how to improve portrait drawing. There are many was to draw a subject, with time you can become as good as you want to be.

AWC associate in art, I've been painting for 10 years

Depends upon distance, but generally $35-60 hr

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think you should have an idea on what type of art goals you have in mind. I'm my best with improvement, basics, direction for art, and motivation to reach goals.
