    Frequently asked questions

A new student of mine will typically begin by having a discussion with me. This discussion will cover everything from what their goals are, to how they believe they have been utilizing their free time. In order for a coach like myself to properly advise a player, we need to understand the person behind the player.

Like most sports coaches, I played the sport I currently coach for my entire adolescence. Basketball was my life from the age of 7 and on. I worked tirelessly to get better, but I had to be shown the way. I was fortunate enough to play under some fantastic coaches and for some amazing programs in the Los Angeles area, some of whom I'd consider peers now! We share the same passion for coaching, and because of this, I spent the majority of my college years earning extra coaching reps, volunteering my time, and spending extra time with players to ensure their comprehension. As I earned my degree in sports culture & ethics, I was working to build a sports culture and directly applied my knowledge. As I complete my degree, I hope to only increase my focus and drive and continue to build this culture, as well as create an environment where hoopers want to get better!!!
I've been fortunate enough to work with students of all sorts. I've worked with all ages, both male and female! In addition, I've been fortunate enough to work with children who have some disabilities. My very first experience training another player was with a buddy of mine who has Down Syndrome. I'm incredibly proud and passionate about working with hoopers of all kinds; basketball is a universal game and should be able to be played by anyone.
In my short career so far, I've already trained hundreds of young athletes. To have even 5 minutes to share knowledge about the game with them is priceless. I recall a weekend at a local sports complex where I was able to look around and watch one of my players on all four courts surrounding me. Never did I think I'd have this sort of impact on youth players, but through hard-work, I've been able to make an impact and even help get them on the court. To me, this is something I'm immensely proud of.
Every kid is different, but there is one constant that each kid needs: time. Without time, whether it be time put into the game, time being patient, or time you spend taking care of yourself, how you utilize your time is very important. It's also important that we're honest with ourselves about how we utilize our time. It wasn't until I was honest with myself about my own output and the time I put into the game that I understood why I wasn't improving.
