Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I evaluate where the student is at with their instrument. The student receives an orientation packet in the first lesson. I make sure they have an organized lesson binder, and an adequate practice area. I make sure I undertand the desires for their lessons. I give them a vision for what they can achieve, and a time frame for doing so. I make sure we have an open communication going forward, and that we don't repeat anything that has not gone well with any lessons before. I go over a learning plan. The rest of the lesson is spent covering the fundaments and foundations necessary to move forward. Students receive homework for the first week.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken thorough private lessons with some the top instructors, and I have over 31 years, and over 50,000 hours teaching experience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Rates are between $45-65/hr depending on the instrument and how many lessons are purchased.
How did you get started teaching?
Teaching guitar was my part time job in college.
What types of students have you worked with?
I can help everyone from beginners to touring professionals, and people from all walks of life.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The majority of music teachers are extremely disorganized and haphazard in how they teach. Make sure the teacher is dedicated, and has a proven written plan to teach you what you need to know. If there is not a proven plan in writing, then you are going to waste your money.
