Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typical one on one lessons are an hour long with a 5 minute intention writing promt in the beginning, then followed by intro to art and materials. Each lesson is different depending on the students interests and preferred media. Once the subject matter is decided we go into creating a work of art for the student to practice and continue throughout the week to complete before the next class.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I’ve had the privilege of teaching both adults and children with and without behavioral and intellectual disabilities art therapy and mixed media material. I incorporate painting, drawing, sculpting, dancing & yoga within my workshops and private lessons.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Typical hour lessons are $30 plus $5-$10 for materials depending upon the subject matter being taught. In total no more than $45
How did you get started teaching?
I am a psychology major and did my internship at the ASU child study lab where I fell in love with early childhood development and art classes. I even did a mural for their classroom while interning there. During the school year I teach preschool at my youngest son’s school as well. It was a win win to educate not only my own son but other children too.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ages ranging from 3-60+ years! Adults with and without special needs and behavioral issues too.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Oh man, there are too many to count. Honestly anytime I can paint a mural and children are able to help and paint with me is THE BEST! The look on their faces knowing they helped complete a masterpiece is priceless! One that I will always cherish.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Honesty. Not being ashamed of your inner light and creativity. My classes are a safe haven where students can unleash their emotions and release their creative flow without judgement! Tell me what you want to do and learn and I’ll do my absolute best to empower you to do so!
