Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We will start with a discussion about goals and general interests. I also discuss what experiences I have and how that might help the student to reach their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA in Fine Art Photography from a top tech school (R.I.T. in Rochester, NY) and both professional field work and 16 years of experience as a teacher of Photography, Art, and Design.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard rate is $40/hr for an individual and more for groups. I am willing to negotiate.
How did you get started teaching?
I started as a skiing instructor in Montana in the late 90's.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and backgrounds.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently photographed the snowstorm that hit Tucson from Sabino Canyon and was there with my family and my cousin who was visiting from Buffalo, NY. It was a surreal experience seeing the snow on all of the cacti and other desert plants. Quite the contrast!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they have the right kind of skills and experience to match with your goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I want to learn and WHY do I want to learn it?
