Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, we see where we are. We talk about what you want. We set goals--short term, medium, & long. Specific, measurable, attainable goals.
& we go one step at a time. & sure, I’ll meet you for 30 free minutes to see if we fit.
It's my honor to help you achieve your goals. I work for you. I believe in you. I have your back. You can text me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA & 2 graduate degrees in creative writing.
I have had such diverse teaching positions as poet-in-residence, as a community college & college writing & poetry instruction, & several years in the public school system.
But it's my 15+ years working in K-12 assessment that truly sets me apart. The English tests at every American school on the planet? I wrote those. I know the tricks to the English SAT. I know the tricks for multiple choice tests & bringing that knowledge to you makes me so happy.
Let me help you. I know how to make it pretty fun, too.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
This depends on the complexity of the subject & the size of the project. Standard rates are $35/hour, but some tutoring is less, & intensive writing, such as PhD dissertations, might be more.
Test prep is generally $50/hour, or 2 students for $80/hour, or a maximum of students for $105.
How did you get started teaching?
My father was a professor. I have never *not* wanted to teach!
What types of students have you worked with?
Teenagers, adults, senior citizens, ESOL, poetry (all levels), creative writing (all levels). 6th grade to infinity. I started helping my father's ESOL PhD candidates in Computer Science and Engineering in middle school, editing their work for grammar, spelling, word choice, flow, & everything else, even with no content knowledge, at 12.
I most recently edited Kathryn Bertine’s latest book, STAND.
