Alana Dill, Artist (You Become Art)
About
Arts I can teach: Beginning to intermediate.
Note, I don't have good experience working with oils so don't feel I can put myself forth as a teacher to work with them. I can, however, help with the materials below:
Drawing with pencil, chalk, conte crayon, aquarelle watercolor crayons, watercolor pencils, charcoal, etc.
Painting:
Beginning to intermediate watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and specialized body painting with cosmetic-grade paints.
I love doing art, and I love teaching art! If you "can't draw a straight line"... don't panic. That's what rulers are for! ;-) Improving your art skills takes practice, patience, and curiosity. I enjoy teaching ages 7 and up, with the teaching style tailored to the student's needs. So many people feel insecure or anxious about their artwork, so I:
• focus on building a strong foundation of skills and observation
• provide encouragement to overcome blocks, and
• capitalize on the "happy accidents" of artmaking.
You can see some of my art on www.youbecomeart.com, and on my body paint profile at www.modelmayhem.com/alanadill
I do not have a teaching credential or even a degree. But I have worked as a professional, both in animation, and as a sole-proprietor face painter and body artist. I have thousands of hours holding a brush, and years of volunteering for art docent programs at a local elementary school. I love getting into the "zone" of happy creativity as an artist, and I love watching a student's face light up when they master a technique!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First we look at where you want to go with your art - and if you don't know, and are just exploring, that's great! Then we assess your current skills, and adapt your curriculum to get you from Point A to Point B. Now comes the ongoing work and play of artistic exercises and processes! We'll build your observation, flex your imagination, bolster your confidence, experiment with tools and techniques, and create a solid foundation of skills through practice.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Although I don't have a degree, I've studied the fine arts: drawing, painting, composition, figure drawing, illustration, animation, color theory, light and shadow, rendering in multiple materials, mixed media. I do have hundreds of hours of work as a professional artist under my belt. I network with other artists of all ages to help them nurture their skills, confidence, and creativity.
