Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with assessing the skill level of the student and asking what they are looking for by expanding (or starting) their photographic knowledge. From there, we can then move on to assignments tailored to improve the quality of work through evaluations and critique.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 25 years of professional experience; this includes not only acting as an official photographer for film sets, the Danish Royal Family, and IBM, but as a free-lance photographer as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons start at $85.00 for 2 hours, $120.00 for 3 hours. For students who are interested in committing more time, for $450.00 I offer a 4 class session package with each session lasting 3 hours.
How did you get started teaching?
I have had students work photography apprenticeships under me for 15 years in the past 3 years I have begun giving private photography lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all skill levels; from beginners with little knowledge of a camera, apprentices and assistants at an intermediate level, to more experiences people who are looking to refine their photography skills.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently worked on the film set of the movie ‘Bosco’ shooting between-the-scenes (BTS) photographs of the crew and actors.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Taking great photographs ultimately comes down to technique. Real life moves fast and knowing how to use the right tools for the job allows one to capture the moment. In the end style and taste are more important than camera gear.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Every student should know why they are deciding to learn this new skill and what they will be using it for. Is it for personal use? As a hobby? As a stepping stone to work as a professional photographer? Ultimately, a student of anything should have passion and realize that mistakes and failure are important to all learning processes.
