Judith Haron is an acclaimed Laguna Beach Sawdust Arts Festival illuminated manuscript artist who produces one-of-kind custom designs. Her artist an expression of a life-long love of history, interest in textiles.
She brings the spirit of the original historical origin with its decorative details that add to the narratives in her work. Through her artistic vision she Is keeping the cultural stories alive to be retold.
Materials and inspiration in her work come from Renaissance manuscripts of the 13th to 15th centuries. Her artwork is produced by hand with authentic, archival materials including egg tempera, watercolor,gold leaf, calligraphy, archival watercolor paper, and parchment. She incorporates calligraphy with raised 23k gold letters and decorative details. Using Renaissance illuminated manuscript techniques.

Spiritual mandalas, manuscripts and letters, wedding vows, birth certificates, wedding certificates, commemorative certificates, family crests, and family trees with decorative accents.

My work is always interesting to me by developing the composition,colors, and subject. The process is exciting from beginning to end. The main thrill is when the final work has been completed and the end result is a very proud moment!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Inspirations:When starting with a new student I ask them to list there favorite hobby, flower,animal, or places they really love to visit. This will get the creativity flowing.
I ask them to save these elements by saving the images prior to class on there computer.
First Project / A Family Renaissance Letter
I always start off with thumbnails which are just sketches in small form. I will bring art references to show different styles of letters that they can use for the project.
Ruff Sketch: Once element and layout have been decided upon we go to a light pencil sketch.
Rendering: I will assist with the rendering of the elements with students with simple techniques on shading,mixing colors, and textures.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received a BFA in Illustration from the Fashion Instatute of Technology in New York City.
I have exhibited and taught art classes at the Laguna Beach Sawdust Arts Festival since 2014.
