Hello, my name's Wade Goyens. I've been a professional artist for close to 20 years. I've had many jobs throughout my career but my areas of focus has always been comics & cartoons! I'm currently a working as a director and prior to that I was working as a storyboard artist.

In addition to my professional work, I've been teaching for about 8 years. I love accompanying people on their art journey & strive to shave off as much time as possible on their path to success! I have experience working with ages 9-50 with most of my students landing in the 17-35 age range. I'd love to help you out as you embark on your artistic endeavors :)

    Wade Goyens, a Storyboarding Wizard and beyond!
    What great words cant be said about Wade!? A combination of Talent, Skill, Affordability and Flexibility always describes the best attributes we seek in an instructor of any field. Wades got them all.
    Within only a year, working with Wade Goyens not only improved my knowledge and abilities (Storyboarding, Character design, Storytelling, Perspective, etc.) in the animation industry but, simultaneously sculpted a personal project of mine from a dream to a reality. Outside of the classroom, hell go above and beyond by sending inspirational content to keep me motivated through my struggles of day to day life. Its a class I look forward to every week to both learn AND unwind!
    The only downside I can mention: His generous 2-3 hour sessions are not long enough! After our lessons are complete, I can go on chit chatting with him for days because you see, Wade Goyens is NOT just your mentor. Hes also your friend!

    Where I have a hard time understanding and getting things down in my head. Wade has been very patient and very compassionate in his teaching methods. He has truly been helpful and once i have learned the methods I’ve been easily able to pick them up in frames and storytelling cues. I am currently still learning from him and will continue to do so. With him I truly think I can pick up a career in storyboarding even though I’ve never went to school for storyboarding/art. I truly feel it is possible.

    I thought taking lessons would kill my enthusiasm for drawing, but Ive had the opposite experience with Wade. He takes the time to understand what I need and what my goals are, and he works closely with me and helps me achieve them. In between lessons, he not only makes sure I follow through on assignments, but he also corrects me and gives me lots of tips to keep me moving forward. Ive been enjoying drawing more, and I look forward to continue working with Wade.

    I take a highly individualistic approach with each student. The first step is taking some time to assess the skill level of the idividual. While I like to tailor every lesson to the specific student there are often fundamental principles that are lacking. My curriculum is based around these common deficiencies and it functions as a loose outline. I then work with the student to build lessons tailored specifically to address their artistic needs and goals.

    I'm a professional storyboard artist working in animation. Storyboards require a strong knowledge of drawing principles including composition, drawing figures, acting, staging and posing.

    Prior to starting my career I served apprenticeships under several top working professionals cartoonists. My primary mentors have included Joe Murray (Rocko's Modern Life, Camp Lazlo, & Let's Go Luna) Jim Smith (The Ren & Stimpy Show) and Stephen Silver (Kim Possible and Danny Phantom.)

    I first began teaching by sharing knowledge I had accumulated over the years with friends. Over time that lead to teaching people I had met on social media via Skype and Google Hangouts.

    I work primarily with beginning and intermediate stage artists.

    I recently got together with some of my animator buddies to sit down and exhange war stories. I'm always fond of events like that. (Pre COVID)

    Find someone who not only trains you but inspires you; someone who will take the time to ensure you comprehend the concepts they're trying to impart.

    The question I always ask and encourage my students to ask of themselves is "What are you trying to accomplish?"
