Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I like to learn what the students goals are and experience are. As well as what kind of repetoire they want to work on. This will determine how I will work with the student. Ultimately it is about the student and what they need. Everyone will require different things depending on their skill level and experience.
Typically we will work on scales and vocal warms up at the begining of the lesson. I will ask the student to have their own notebook to write down what they need to practice and homeowork, if that is something they are wanting within their learning experience. Then we will focus on different repetoire and building their book of music. Among many other things.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have graduated from the NYC and LA campuses of the American Musical and Dramatic College of Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre.
If the student wants more specific training geared towards musical theatre and Broadway, which include more performing and acting concepts we can go that route if wanted.
I have sung professionally as a lead vocalist with Norwegian Cruise Lines as well as at Equity theaters and I am an EMC candidate for Equity the Broadway union.
I also have completed clasical vocal examinations with the Royal Academy of Music as well as music threory exams.
How did you get started teaching?
I have had so many amazing voice teachers, coaches, music directors and piano teachers that I have worked with since I was 6 years old. I have so much that I have learnt that I want to share and give back. I fell into this as I was asked by friends for help and I realized how much I absolutely love sharing what I have learnt and experienced. Nothing makes me happier than working with clients and helping them improve and reach their goals.
