About this pro

I started teaching in the 1st  Montessori school in Riyadh KSA 20 years ago, I've taught in ESL classrooms ,designed and developed  ESL curriculum for 12 years. I have recently moved back to the USA and started teaching online ESL classes in Asia. I was also the overseas chairman for USA Girl Scouts overseas for 10 years. I have a passion for working with young people. I have been using the zoom meeting platform and the Reading A to Z online  curriculum. It is a wonderful tool for improving your child's reading skills. Let's meet on line and let me show you how this can work for you.

I also have  experience with adult conversation classes. I like to use You Tube videos as jump starts topics for adult conversation classes as well as newspaper articles and books my students suggest as interesting to them.

Last year I started teaching online to orphanages in Asia .This has been my favorite ESL classroom from the past 15 years .I have always enjoyed seeing the light in children's eyes when they begin to understand and realize they are capable . Happy students are the joy in my life.

I was just looking for interesting conversation to improve my ability to communicate in English. She gave me the idea to start a new word journal. Any time we were talking and I ran up against a word or concept I didn’t understand we added it to my word journal using that word in its original sentence. Then we look up its opposite meaning and create a sentence using this new word to describe something in my life. Deborah has an able to bring back the conversation to the current topic of conversation and review what has come before. I am happy with my progress.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to meet online first talk about what their goals are and show them the programs that I've used in the past

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a degree in Montessori education ages 3 to 6. I also was the overseas chairman for USA Girl Scouts Overseas in Riyadh Saudi Arabia for 10 years . One of my responsibilities was to go to yearly leadership conferences  and then bring back that information  to train the leaders . I developed multi-language curriculum for a Montessori School in Riyadh for many years as well as did ESL tutoring until 2015. In 2018, after back surgery , I started  online teaching pairing up with an Arabic  language professor here in California  we designed an English and Arabic  as a second language program for orphanages

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I like to keep my classes to 45 minutes  teaching time. I allow a for one hour just in case we have technical issues or I want to insert a you tube video that complements the lesson. After the initial assessment, I use the teacher lessons plans from Reading a to z according to your child reading ability , here is their link https://www.raz-plus.com/

How did you get started teaching?

I started as a teacher's assistant  ,then a camp  counslor while still in high school way before computers came along ,I was using songs and flashcards to help students break down difficult concepts into smaller chunks so that they could understand. I brought these skills to my Girl Scout career teaching children and adults how to love the outdoors. I enjoyed sharing my American culture with the Girl Scout families in Riyadh. I lived there for 25 years. I now split my time between  USA and KSA.

What types of students have you worked with?

I've taught adults as well as children. My specialty is young children ages 3 to 6. My online work has been with Elementary children 6 to 12 years old.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I have one online group that is 10 classrooms and when we say goodbye all the children can see each other in 10 little windows on the monitor. Talking to them and saying goodbye is absolute pure joy ,they are so excited to see one another and wave goodbye and of course see themselves online.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Meet on line and try a free class. I think it is the best way to get to know if you will enjoy their teaching style.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Ask yourself what has helped you learn before. Also think about what has not been helpful. Have a clear goal in mind do you want to just practice reading fun books do you want to improve your vocabulary or are you reading below grade level? Do I need to improve phonics skills? Ask how that teacher can help you achieve your goals.
