About

My name is Karen Blackburn, and I have a degree in music education from Cal State University Fullerton. I have been teaching private voice lessons for 30 years, and guitar, piano, drums, clarinet, and flute for over 20 years. I am currently a music teacher in the Rowland Unified School District, and teach privately in the late afternoons, and evenings. My lessons are very performance driven, as I believe it is important.

Karen's Kids, is a children's song and dance performing group made up of kids between the ages of 6 and 14 years old.

Karen's Kids, began as a small group of 12 kids in the summer of 1978. That first group was unbelievably talented, and set the standard for years to come.

Karen's Kids, entertains audiences with their renditions of Pop tunes and Broadway standards throughout Southern California, and even as far away as Las Vegas and Hawaii! Members of Karen‘s Kids have starred in commercials, television (Kids Incorporated), (Star Search), (American Idol), recording (Fergie), and on Broadway. karenskids.org

Frequently asked questions

I try to find out why they want to take private lessons and how far they would like go.  After we have decided on a plan of action, I give them things to work on and encourage them to practice as much as possible.

I have worked with many types of students. I’ve worked with gifted kids as well as kids could just love music.

I am proud of the kids that I work with in my group, Karen’s kids. They perform all over Southern California and even on Catalina Island and in Las Vegas at Hawaii.
