About
My teaching style is very accomodating to the artists needs. I love solving 'art problems' and helping an artist learn how to get the effect they are looking for. As a Golden Artist Colors and Silver Brush brand ambassador, I have 25 years of experience with materials and their various uses. The most important aspect of art is to enjoy one's creativity and feel encouraged to come back and do it again. I am supportive, encouraging and enthusiastic for my artists.
I am on the board of the Arts Colony in Corona and run classes from this space.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Students can join an ongoing class and jump in or we can work one on one for a specific project. Most classes complete a project or painting every week or two, so it's almost always possible to join in at the beginning of a project.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts from Columbia College Chicago back in the 90's! I have worked within the art materials industry since then, with a focus on using a wide range of paint and drawing media.
I am a brand ambassador for Golden Artist Colors, through which I provide in depth and highly tecnical information about acrylic, oil and watercolor.
I am a brand ambassador for Silver Brush and can provide detailed instruction in brush use and handling.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Private lessons are priced at $40 an hour, most materials provided. Group lessons are priced per month and vary depending on the subject. Most materials are provided.
How did you get started teaching?
I had two young daughters at home and I wanted to do something that I could include them in. We started classes out of my home studio back in 2012. Now they are artists in their own right and I've been teaching in elementary schools, universities, arts clubs and private groups ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with artists of all ages, but I especially enjoy lessons with adults. I'm comfortable with beginners and anyone looking to explore more about painting, including materials, color theory and application techniques.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Every year I work with about 80 7th graders to produce a mural on the walls of Home Gardens Academy in Corona. I love planning for the organized chaos of so many artists at once. And we always create an artwork so much greater than what we could do as individuals.
I love encouraging people who feel they aren't artistic, and supporting people who have a vision. Murals are a great time to work with a spectrum of artists.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think personal rapport is important. I struggled under teachers that told me there was a right way and a wrong way to make art. I think it's important to connect with and trust an art instructor, as they are someone who will lead you to new forms of personal expression.
