Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I love the game! My techniques come from a fifteen year background in baseball and eleven year football career.
Baseball:
My training programs cover the game of baseball in its entirety; from in-game scenarios, fundamentals, technique, individual athletes traits. Depending on what the athlete desires, we focus on getting them to that level of play they want.
Football:
Specialize in QB and RB positions for offensive; Secondary positions on defense (CB, S). Also work on physical training, drills, weigh-room regiments for all positions to increase awareness, speed, strength, agility and decision-making.
The Approach:
I share a unique training approach in all aspects of the athlete. We focus on balance and breathing, combining physical and mental training within the game, and cater to the individuals athletic traits. I also introduce a light weight regiment to help with performance and heightened reaction time for the player. My training program helps develop muscle memory for consistency and increased velocity (and movement for pitchers) in throwing, speed and strength in football, and great knowledge of the sport to help players stay sharp in any aspect of the game.
My goals as a coach are to break down bad habits by pushing young athletes to not exceed the expectations of others, but for themselves. You're only as good in the game by being mentally focused and not letting outside influence cloud your judgement. The approach is fun, different, and I like to keep a sense of levity in our training regiments. This is for fun! It is the athlete who already instills their own greatness; we just help unlock that potential.
I look forward to helping you obtain your goals and cannot wait to watch you grow into the player you wish to become.
Let's talk.
Best,
Coach Derek

How did you get started teaching?
Assisted in High School training facilities for football after graduation from school in 2002.
There, I helped develop a regiment in the weight room while assisting defensive backs and running backs on the practice field. The players were undersized and underdogs to every team they faced by height, weight, and speed. The teams would go on to win multiple Div 10 & 12 CIF Football titles against these larger teams.
With that, my independent coaching mechanics began.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages from 2 - 20 thus far.
my mechanics can also be applied to any sport and tailored to each athletes needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Developing my own son in soccer, baseball, hockey and football.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Have fun! If you want to be there, you'll be great. Work hard and be patient with yourself. New approaches take time; they're meant to be challenging. The fruit of your labor is the key to your success.
