About

Hello,

Thank you for contacting me. I am a session bassist/guitarist who graduated B.M. from Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have been an instructor over 20 years, and have been taught bass, guitar and ukulele in multiple settings (private lessons, group classes in elementary schools, and college level band classes)

My teaching style is very relaxed. I do not want to rush my students. I want to play tunes together, talk about how they practiced and what was difficult, answering questions until they make sense. Then I will give my students very specific homework to work on. I believe that if I ask them to work on something they do not fully understand that will confuse them, so I try to get rid of ambiguity as much as I can. I know everybody is busy, but I don't think you can rush to learn to play an instrument. It takes time and discipline.

My rates are $40 for 30min, $70 for 60min, and $90 for 90min.

Currently I give lessons online (Zoom, Skype) and in person.

With using screen share and video recording I develop an effective way to teach lessons online. I realize that online lessons can be very effective. It solely depends on the instructor and stability of the internet connection. I have a lot of experience and I do have a very fast internet. I am confident that I can be a good instructor to you. To demonstrate how I do my lessons online I offer $25 for your first lesson (60 minutes).

Thank you,

Gaku Murata
