About
Kids become confident in their ability to learn and improve when they are inspired. That is what our art classes do.
The small class size and collaborative approach exposes students to different kinds of problem-solving while creating a sense of artistic community necessary for building confidence and self-esteem.
From week to week students are exposed to the range of techniques (pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.) and different styles from influential masters in history.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Ms. Machiko is very patient and is well equipped with musical tools to keep the little ones engaged! She is the first piano teacher who has managed to guide my 5-year-old daughter to the piano in a loving way and taught her something!

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Machiko! Not only is she a very talented and natural musician, but she is also an inspiring and amazing teacher. My 10 yr old daughter always looked forward to lessons with Machiko, she felt supported, encouraged and challenged all at the same time!

Machiko has taught my daughter (age 12) and son (age 10). Both kids have loved their lessons -- Machiko is positive, patient, and reliable.

Machiko is a very talented, friendly and patient piano instructor. She quickly got a sense of my 6 year old daughter’s learning style and worked to motivate her and meet her at her level, making lessons fun yet still challenging. We miss her so much and highly recommend her!

My 9 year old took piano lessons from Machiko. Machiko has a very sweet and gentle manner and was great at keeping my somewhat distracted daughter focused. She also let my daughter pick songs to work on which kept her interested and excited.

Machiko proved herself to be a patient, responsive piano teacher for my two children, who were performing at the beginner and intermediate levels. She intuitively understood each of my boys unique strengths and areas in need of focus. Machiko was professional, reliable and adept at facilitating parent involvement. Our family had a fantastic experience with Machiko!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Through a trial lesson or first lesson I learn about the student's level and their interest. In that way I can adjust my lessons to better help in their learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA in Animation from the Academy of Art University and AAS in Graphic Design from Tidewater Community College. I have worked with kids 6 years old to 13 years old.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching Art camps during summer and winter breaks with my wife at her studio. Eventually we moved into a bigger space and was able to offer small Art classes. What a joy it is to create a positive and fun learning environment for my students during their lessons!
