I’m Miss Kristy!

I specialize in helping elementary and middle school students not only meet their educational goals but excel by learning the skills needed to be a motivated and successful learner!

I am able to make curriculum and state standards accessible and engaging for students. I am motivated, caring and patient in guiding students to academic success. I am also experienced in partnering with parents to see their students not only succeed but thrive as a learner! There is nothing better than when a student understands a topic and begins to build self confidence!

I work with students one on one and also host small groups of students for tutoring sessions. Tutoring sessions are offered in person and virtually.

I offer my educational services in the following areas as a tutor:

Assessing students in order to formulate a plan for higher achievement

Helping students reach and master their grade level standards and beyond!

Developing executive functioning including organization, time management and study skills

Preparing for upcoming tests including CAASP standardized testing

Developing skills to become an active and engaged learner

Working with students to boost knowledge retention

Providing assistance with homework/project completion

Following extensive lock downs during the Covid pandemic my child suffered significant educational losses. It felt like no matter what I tried I either didn’t have the knowledge or qualifications to fill in these gaps for my child. After a lengthy period of frustration as a family, I reached out to multiple tutoring businesses. I found Miss Kristy to be the most personable, friendly, helpful, and educated of all that I spoke with. She was able to work with my child to develop healthy study habits and gain the knowledge needed to bring him back to grade level! He is now enjoying school more and finding success in his studies! What is your typical process for working with a new student?

The first time I meet with a new client and their student I will conduct a 60 minute diagnostic session. 40 minutes will be spent with the student, getting to know them and their learning styles. I will ask questions about their school experience as well as where they are at in their learning. After this, I will meet with the parent(s) for 20 minutes to discuss their goals for the tutoring sessions along with how I can best help their student towards their educational goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I graduated from Cal Poly Humboldt with an Elementary Teaching Credential and a Bachelor’s in Communication. I also received my Single Subject General Sciences credential from University of Phoenix. I have 25+ years of experience in education both as a certificated teacher and professional tutor. I specialize in helping elementary and middle school aged students not only meet their educational goals but excel by learning the skills needed to be a motivated and successful learner!
