About this pro

Kate is an artist, an art educator, and a healing arts facilitator, which gives her a uniquely sensitive teaching style. Yes, you learn how to paint, draw, sculpt, AND you are inspired to develop your own creative voice. Her philosophy is that we are all artists and we live a full, rich life when we create our heart's desire.

I enjoy sharing my passion for art at whatever level and with whichever goals a student may have.

I have taught high school art, recreational art, summer art programs, community college art, trade trainings, and adult school art programs. Every student has a special artistic journey and I enjoy traveling part of the way with each one!

We were a small group of children and adults. Kate was a patient and wonderful teacher. She came early to set up and was very organized. We all agreed to have another class with her in May. Kate also agreed to teach a ceramics class for our retirement community. I highly recommend her.

I really enjoyed how comfortable and relaxed I felt working with Kate. She has a gentle way about her and it allows you the freedom to express yourself naturally and it's exciting to see what just shows up.

In my experience, the act of creating invites one to trust ones own knowing. Systemic creating with Kate offers a path from which to work intuitively, a feeling in that trust of ones own felt sense. Kate guides you through the path of your own knowing that once seen, and traveled is always there. The artifacts made along the way reflect the journey, be it a painting, sculpture, or any other form. Working with Kate is wonderful.

Kate's engaging and lively teaching style inspires students to use art as an expression of their innermost feelings or to just explore and have fun in discovering their creativity.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Primarily, I like to be clear about the new students' goal before I establish a lesson plan.

The student answers a short questionaire and I may ask for clarification too. Then I develop classes to suit each student's individual request.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have two art degrees: Diploma in Sculpture from the London Guild Art School, and an MFA from California College of Art, Oaland, California. I have a Califonrinia State Teachers Credential in Art (and English).

I taught art in two high schools in LA and one in San Diego county for 18 years. I have taught in adult school, recreation centers, community college and a trade training polytechnic in London. I also offer healing art constellations which combine art with a therapeutic healing proces.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My basic rate is $32 an hour.

Groups of five or more $25 a class  (60 - 90minutes).

I offer a sliding scale where need and enthusiasm are great.
