About
I tailor each lesson to each student depending on their goals and their ability. We always work together to attain each person's goals as a team. I listen to feed back and I am very in tune with the level of comfort in the water of each of my students. I work very hard to enable my students to feel comfortable and confident in the water, and to feel confident with me as their mentor. I work very efficiently to give each person the quickest route to achieving their goals.
I love to see the look on people's faces when they achieve their goals!
I love to take a nervous swimmer and transform them in to a swimmer that is at home in the water and truly confident in their aquatic abilities.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Durring the first lesson I will evaluate the student's skill level. I will ask for their thoughts on what they would like to accomplish. Then we will typically set up a series of 6-10 lessons which are each 40 minutes in the water.
I will let them dictate how many times per week however, it is advised to take at least 2 per week when first begining to see the most improvemnet.
I will gain trust at the start by always following through on what I say I am going to do and giving guided encouragemnet and praise.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

How did you get started teaching?
I started Competing in Swimming at the age of 13 on a USA Swim club team. I swam for 6 years on that team and throughout High school and College.
I began teaching at the age of 17 at the Grossmont Union High School District pools and I have worked at several YMCA and private Swim Schools as well as coached High School Swim teams and USA Club Swimming teams. I have been teaching Private and small group lessons at peoples' private homes since 1985.
What types of students have you worked with?
ALL ages - 6 months-Senior Adults.
Nervous beginners all the way through Competative -CIF level- High School Swimmers.
Deveopmentally and/or Physically challenged - All ages as well, 6 months- Senior Adults
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask the instructor their favorite strokes or skills to teach and also what is their favorite age group to work with.
Ask their experience - if it is all swim team or all under age 6 then depending on where you are starting at they may not be the right fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
You should be clear on several goals- not just to "learn to swim."
Think about and then communicate to the instructor exactly which strokes you want to focus on.
If you have a class or a test the you might want to be able to take in the Aquatics arena, let the instructor know about this goal. Make sure the instructor is aware of the requirements to qualify to pass the test or join the class.
