I love teaching music and care deeply about the musical development of all my students. The lessons include music fundamentals such as reading music, rhythm, melody, harmony. The lessons emphasize correct technique, instruction in theory, playing with beautiful tone and musical interpretation. In addition, playing by ear and memorization techniques are integral aspects of the musical education. And most important, you will learn lots of great songs in various styles!

    Debra is an amazing piano teacher. She has been teaching my daughter for about 8 years now, and my son, who was not too interested to take lessons at the beginning, is now also taking lessons with her. She is very skilled in her craft, very patient, and takes the time to really customize the lesson based on the students interest and challenges. Debra will suggest new songs and learn new songs herself, based on their unique interests, to keep them engaged and excited for lessons. She is very flexible when we have schedule conflicts and very responsive in communicating with us. She encourages my daughter to try out for competitions, which boosts her confidence and keeps her motivated. My kids fill our home with music everyday and they love playing the piano, takes to Debra!

    Debra Avalos has been teaching violin and piano since 1980. She studied with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki at the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan and is certified as a Suzuki Violin Instructor.

    Debra is the former concertmaster of the Cosumnes College Orchestra. She has played in various musical groups including the San Luis Obispo Community Orchestra, the San Luis Klezmorim Band, O’Connell’s Fancy (an Irish trio), Baraka (a middle eastern dance group), The Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, The Rainbow Theatre, Camellia Symphony, church orchestras and various other musical groups.

    TUITION

    • Monthly tuition is due on the first lesson of each month.
    • Payments can be sent through Zelle.
    • 30 minute lesson per week - $140 per month.
    • 45 minute lesson per week - $190 per month.
    • The number of lessons per month will vary. Rates are not based on the number of lessons per month. 
    • Tuition pays for 42 lessons per year. 
    • The 42 lessons per year are divided by 12 months so the monthly rate remains constant. 
    • There are no refunds for missed lessons.
    If you prefer to pay per lesson the rate for 30 minute lessons is $37 and for 45 minute lessons $50 each
    I previously taught in person, but am currently only teaching online. Both Violin & Piano lessons are provided. I enjoy teaching both children and adults, all levels from complete beginners on up.
