About

I am a classically-trained Gospel & Christian Contemporary keyboardist. I was also a high school music teacher for 12 years and a church music director for 8 years.

I believe that music is best learned the way we learn language as a child—by listening, allowing our brains to connect the dots, and developing skills through exploration, repetition, and interaction.

I also believe that fulfillment in music-making is best found in understanding what we are hearing and being able to reproduce that sound. While I can read music, I do not believe it practical or necessary for most people who want to play on a recreational basis.

My primary focus, then, is to teach students to “hear” the melody, harmony, structure, and feel of music in such a way as to be able to reproduce and improvise on what they hear.

    Frequently asked questions

After determining whether group or individual lessons would be better, students will be given a link to schedule at the time that works best for them. In the process, they'll answer a series of questions which will help me to ascertain their current skill level and goals. Policies and payment link will be sent via email after a slot is reserved.

I have a degree in Music Education, as well as training and experience in playing by ear.

Payments will handled through an automatic monthly subscription, which must be started by the day of the student's first lesson. 45-min group lessons (for beginning to intermediate students) are $125/month and 30-min individual lessons (for intermediate to advanced students) are $180/month.

People started asking me to teach lessons when I was still a teenager just getting into college.

All types. Children and adults with no experience to lots of experience.

Look for a piano instructor that connects well with you, teaches the style you desire to learn, and is a current practitioner in that style.

What are my goals? What do I want to accomplish in these lessons? How can I find the most fulfillment in the learning and practice?
