Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will schedule a meet and greet to discuss the students experience in art, then sign up for a lesson date. I will start with one on one with my students and then as they progress we can move to group activities. There will be times that I will offer group activities once they feel comfortable. I will have different subjects in the chosen art medium.
In September we will discuss Fair entries.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have attended many teaching seminars for those who work in Art outreach programs from 2002-2005. This was done with the Center for Contemporary Arts located in Abilene, Tx.
I have also worked as an Art Reach Instructor in the same time period.
I've also worked as an instructor with Every Neighborhood Partnership located in Fresno, Ca. for 3 years through Free Grace Church, Fresno. This was a program at Bernie Elementary School called Saturday Sports Program.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Currently I am asking $25 per hour for lessons. There can be supply charges that will be extra.
How did you get started teaching?
I became a member of an Art Gallery and the administration asked me to join in their Art Reach Program. They provided training and experience!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide age range from elementary school students to the elderly in nursing homes.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Being involved in the after school program gave me a sense of purpose and got me into teaching and influencing others in art again.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a person with a background in art and a desire to positively influence you in your desire to learn techniques in the type of art you desire. Everyone excells in one or more types of art. Look for someone who is currently working in that medium.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Decide on a medium your interested in learning. Talk with people who are offering that type of lessons. Look for someone that you feel would be a good fit for you. You may not get along with every teacher you come across, but don't give up! Feed your desire to learn!
