Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We see where a student is at in their artistic development, and what they want out of the class. We begin at a comfortable point that will help them develop and evolve creatively. The class involves a balance of individual instruction for their project of choice, and work time to implement new techniques.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA with a Fine Arts and painting emphasis, and an MFA with an emphasis in children's literature. I have taught art for 6 years in public and private schools before opening my own studio, and am also an author with a published book. Outside of the studio, I paint, write, parent, and take care of my family.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$35/ 1 hour class, or $60/ 1 hour private lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I started as a substitute teacher at the reputable Petersen's Art in Salt Lake City, Utah, before taking full-time teaching positions at American Preperatory Academy and Heritage Oak Private School.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children beginning at kindergarten, and have also taught middle school students, adults, seniors, and special needs students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who is an artist themselves, and who will give you the personal time and attention that you need. You want to be taken care of as a growing artist, rather than just a number in a large class.
