Hi! I'm Reinder and have been playing and teaching guitar professionally for over 15 years. I graduated from the Conservatory in Amsterdam and have been teaching at both music schools as well as privately in Europe and NYC. Sharing my musical knowledge and passion for the guitar and music in general is what I truly love to do! Who doesn't love music? Most of the students I have taught had a love for music and guitar in particular. Whether you like to play acoustic folk songs or improvise on a 12-bar blues: I'd be happy to help you get started or teach you all the tricks & licks! What I enjoy most is to help students learn a skill that will benefit them their entire life, and to see them grow over time.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The guitar Lessons are always tailored to the individual, while covering all the basics and more. Finding out what your musical interests and goals are is the most important guideline for the course of the lessons.
Besides learning a new skill which will benefit you your entire life, I believe that above all making music should be fun!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been playing guitar since age 13 and hold a Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal Conservatory in Amsterdam.
As I see it, playing and teaching guitar / music go hand in hand.
I have over 15 years of hands-on teaching experience in varying forms like 1-on-1, group lessons and band coaching.
Besides teaching I also have over 15 years experience performing internationally with professional pop/rock acts as well as recording albums and song writing.
I am currently studying to become a luthier by doing set ups, guitar repair work as well as builds.

For individual lessons:
30 Minutes: $40
45 minutes: $50
60 minutes: $60
How did you get started teaching?
My first teaching experience was when I was about 18 after I had been playing for 5 years. I then realized that I found sharing the knowledge I had very rewarding. During my study in Amsterdam I started teaching at several music schools throughout The Netherlands as well as giving private lessons. Teaching has always been an important part of my profession.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages ranging from about 6 - 60+. I have taught both individual as well as group lessons, band coaching and music theory. I teach both electric and acoustic guitar and can help with singing and songwriting too.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Think about and make a short list with your favorite bands or singers and write down some musical goals before you go into your first lesson. This will help the teacher come up with a lesson plan that will suit your style!
Also I would always suggest to go for a try-out lesson so you can get a real feel for their way of teaching.
