Ive taken a few painting classes throughout my life, and can say without hesitation that Rod Smith is the best teacher Ive ever had. During covid, I wanted to try a few art projects that Ive put on the back burner for years, like learning how to paint a portrait. Right out of the gate, Rod taught me about color and the structure of faces, and provided me with a list of supplies and paints to buy. It was straightforward and exactly what I was looking for. Not only is he a great teacher, but hes an excellent resource on the history of art and was able to give me the names of painters and books to check out. I look forward to our next class!

    Frequently asked questions

The most important thing to learn about Art is the underlying pleasure that one can find in a creative journey.   I teach technique but just as much I attempt to instill in a student the passion and desire to pursue it.    Art is a liberating path.   Highly therapeutic in the manner in which it reveals to ourselves our truest nature.   It gives meaning to life and introduces us to the world outside. I offer helpful information on materials, mediums and techniques with demonstrations and follow up consultations with ongoing projects.

Be specific about what you are looking for in art.  Find a teacher who understands your vision.  Art is about many things and conversations is an important aspect.

Do they desire to learn a specific technique?  Are they searching for a medium and want to explore the numerous materials available?  Does the teacher communicate well?
